People, Who Play Pietsch Banjos

Sean Moyses

My name is Sean Moyses, I have been playing banjo since I was 11 years old and for the last ten years I`ve been depending on my banjo for my living. I´ve played among others with "the Pasadena Roof Orchestra" and was six years touring with " Bob Kerr`s Whoopee Band"  Since taking up the banjo I`ve played all top brands, Vega, Gibson, Bacon & Day etc. but I`ve never heard a banjo that sounded so good, played so well or looked so attractive as a "Pietsch".

These banjos are individually hand-made and represent the ultimate in precision and craftsmanship. These are not mass production instruments and care and taste goes into the finished product - an exceptional tone, volume and an effortless playing action makes my choice for a lasting investment a Pietsch Banjo.

The Pietsch Mastervox is the highest quality banjo I have played. On stage, in recording studios, it always sounds great ! Both its precise pitches and balanced tone are necessary for my performance and music. I can say that it has more function of the musical instrument than the Vegavox, which is the basis of the Maservox.

My Mastervox has a little oriental and beautiful art deco figures which I love. The most famous banjo collector in Japan, Akira Tsumura, praises its artistic beauty.

The Farquhar Cherrywood 2-leg 5/8 inch bridge is well suited to my Mastervox, so that it sounds like my favorite pre-war Vegavox. By preference, clafskin head can be put on the Mastervox....

ken_aoki_swThe Mastervox sounds loud and powerful because of the Huber tone ring. The Gibson Mastertone banjo has the tone ring and provides much more powerful sound than the Vegavox. The Mastervox is an outstanding Vegavox!

As the Pietsch banjo is built very well and precisely, the parts of Mastervox would not be badly distorted by weather. I think that the Mastervox has every possibility of making various sound through adjusting head tension, selecting bridges, and picking techniques.

Christoph Cringle

 Christoph Cringle:
I am a versatile banjo player performing both in Dixibands and
playing solo – what I like most, and what I think is most exciting!  To cover all kinds of music styles I switch between plectrum-, guitar- and tenortuning.
Since last year I am proud to call a   Pietsch Masterbell No 6 my own. This
is the first 11,5” tenorbanjo to be played in Germany.  I´ve never had  a banjo with both  a sweet tone and  mighty volume.  This is exactly what I´ve always been searching for and what I  need for my tenor repertoire ranging from Bach to Reser, from Reels to film themes.
Detailed information about my banjos, how I use the banjotunings (tenor-, plectrum-, guitartuning, depending which tune I play), how I learn
and introvert the music to play it by mind, and about my musical career and more will be find on my own website – which is under construction and to be continued hopefully soon (this is my purpose for 2007, anyway …).
My band is String Trio, we play Ragtime, Swing, Musical, Classik and Blues. From typical banjo- tunes (Reser, Mandell, Grimshaw, …) to  exciting melodies  (Bach, Faltermeyer, Yradier, …) which one hasn’t heard  before played on banjo, guitar and tuba - a treat for the ears.  String Trio´s native place is Husum, Nordfriesland, performing in places all over Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Danmark.
Our website www.stringtriosh.de will be newly built soon.

Eddy Davis

Eddy DavisEddy Davis about his Openback :

I love to play non-resonator banjos and the sound of this one without a resonator is perfection plus.  It has volume and sustain that I never thought was possible and the tone is warm and round.  This banjo's a bitch.

Jackie Lynn MacCoy

Jackie Lynn MacCoy Banjo Lady My name is Jackie Lynn MacCoy.

I am a professional banjo player and entertainer in the United States (Cincinnati, Ohio).I began playing the banjo when I was 7 years old. My father was a wonderful player and friend of the great Banjo King, Eddie Peabody ! I truly believe I have the greatest job in the world. Fellow banjo players know the joy that playing this unique instrument can bring.
In 2005, I had the pleasure of purchasing my Mastervox plectrum banjo, made by Norbert Pietsch of Bremen, Germany.  The original owner was the talented banjo virtuoso, Sean Moyses. I am proud to play this beautiful Mastervox !
People "ooh and aaahhh" when they see it for the first time !!I love the sound and tone, the playability, and the tremendous musicality of this banjo.  When you play as much as I do, your instrument is almost likea "part" of you---   you become as "one". Norbert Pietsch is not only a GENIUS banjo-maker, but a dear friend as well.  I highly recommend this banjo to anyone....whether you play for pay, or for pure fun and enjoyment !
