Norbert PietschDear fellow banjo enthusiast !

Welcome to The Pietsch Banjo Company. If you are looking for a "one of a kind" custom made banjo built to your own personal taste, you have come to exactly the right place.
My banjos are individually made by myself at my workshop in Bremen, Germany and are built to exacting precise specifications. I am not a factory, and I do not mass produce banjos. Nothing is pre-formed and no corners are cut in a Pietsch banjo. I do my own woodwork, metalwork, carving, inlaying, engraving, spraying etc. My goal is to build you a banjo with a full and balanced sound, that is easy to play and with outstanding looks.
I offer several basic banjo models which include my Pietsch MasterVox and MasterBell flagship series and they are available in tenor, plectrum and five-string models. I must stress that these are 100% custom and are not avaiable anywhere else. Take a look at some of the banjos I have built by clicking on the thumbnail images in the gallery. You will be able to zoom in closer for high quality detailed images of my work. Please also visit the "Pietsch Pickers Index" link to see who has bought one of my banjos and how they feel about the owning and playing a Pietsch banjo.

You can hear and see my banjos being played by clicking on the video link. You need a DSL/Broadband connection for this to function correctly.

I hope you enjoy your visit to www.pietsch-banjos.de and please come back again.

Best wishes and have fun!

I have been creating banjos for 20 years and hold a master degree in lutherie. Being a devoted banjo player myself, I developed a keen interest in the different types and sounds of banjos early on in my career. Craftsmanship and artwork from the "golden age" of banjos(1910 -1930`s) fascinated me then and still inspire me today. This shows in the wide variety of custom banjos that I offer. They include most of the banjo family such as 5-string banjos, tenor banjos, plectrum banjos, guitar banjos and open-back “claw hammer” banjos. I am proud to say that I do all custom work by myself. This is the only way I can guarantee consistent quality to my very high standards.

The woods that I use are air-dried and quarter-sawn for ultimate stability. More often than not, I have to manufacture custom metal parts myself.

Basically, my work represents time-proven characteristics of vintage banjos, combined with the experience and refinements of today’s technology. An outstanding tone and "playability" are always my top priority.

Some important aspects and features of my banjos are:

  • rosewood which are then multi-laminated with contrasting veneers in a classical manner.

  • I only sell directly to the customer and have satisfied Pietsch banjo players all over the world. I pay utmost attention to the personal needs of my customers and always encourage their input in the preparation of the banjo.

  • For the clientele a large number of options are available to choose from and I will do my best to design and build a banjo that meets my customer's dreams, expectations and requirements.

Please contact me to discuss your options!

Prices will depend on the type of banjo and the amount of artwork you choose for your banjo.I also do repairs, reproductions, restorations and up-grading of banjos.
